Tree Planters

In Finland during the high season 10,000 people work in the tree planting business. As well as the regular forest workers and foreigners looking for summer jobs, many of the workers are Finland’s youth, university and high school students. I visited Rovaniemi for several weeks in June and met many of these students. Hard workers can earn well above the average student income. Tree planting is physically challenging. One person plants between 2000 and 3000 seedlings in a 8-10 hour day. They earn up to 3000 euro per month during the high season.

The tree planting business not only creates green jobs for thousands of people around the world but helps to ensure sustainable economic growth and to prevent environmental pollution, global warming and resource depletion.
